The current form of the Giovenco Project features a diverse sampling of local musicians who rely on improvisation as a core inspiration. Any musical style is fair game – jazz, funk, latin, reggae…wait, who needs to label groove?

through lyric and melody.

Since summer of 2003, MC/DJ Carlos Julio Gonzalez aka Chango Julius (Venezuela/LA/SF) has been
hosting evening and weekend live sessions in basements, bedrooms, and studios in San Francisco
and Oakland, CA. Working closely with producer The Nothing (Davis, CA) the sessions would rotate a
multitude of personalities and characters always fusing DJ’s, live instrumentation, MC’s and vocalists to
produce a vibrant blend of hip hop, reggae, soul, funk and jazz.
In June of 2009, Mr. Julius teamed up with producer Fernando Cardoso (Nowtime Sound) and rising
female vocalist star Maria "Songbird" Remos (Hawaii). They gathered a few of those jam sessions
regulars to record and produce a cover of roots crooner Courtney John’s "Lucky Man" into "Lucky
Sound" for asiwouldsay music/art zine Issue 13 and hence Thank You Julius was born.
Since then, the group has played select live shows in the Bay Area promoting the Amphibians demo and
building their ever growing local fan base. With a productive winter in the studio, the group prepares to
debut an array of new projects in the Summer & Fall of 2010 on Fruta Records.

Brothers Amor
Somewhere on a corner in oakland there is a room full of keyboards and tape decks, chessboards, ash and empty bottles. Stacks of vinyl line the floor, a random selection gives you; "Herb Alpert's Tijuana Brass", "silly songs and modern lullabies" and "drum library vol. 4." littered amongst them are bart cards, grip tape, backwoods, microphones and empty pens. Ladies and gentlemen, The Brothers Amor. Abacus and Lord Cromwell, birthed of windmills and wine, are giving us what we want to hear, not only a blessed up beat and a soulful sound, but also an open invitation to a time where the music is funky, the people are real, and love is back.
